Plan your exhibition space strategically to draw in potential clients/customers. Here are 6 simple tips to improve exhibition stand design.
Tip 1 – Link the style to your website style
You want people to remember your brand name and recognise the link between the way your stand looks and the way your website looks. This helps to build trust by using consistent styling and messaging. After all, your website is likely to be the next touch point for potential clients.
Be consistent in style across all your marketing to cement your message in the minds of others.
Tip 2 – Consider where tables and people will be
Space may be at a premium but it does not mean you have to fill it. If you fill the space there is no room for delegates! Plan where you will stand to talk to people. Allow people to wander into your space, make it inviting.
You are likely to have some furniture in the space. Plan for this by making sure any tables or chairs do not obscure key information on your stand graphics.
Tip 3 – Keep text at eye level
It is uncomfortable for delegates to strain to read anything below knee height. It is likely to be obscured by furniture anyway and nobody wants to have to crouch down to read your display. Use that space for patterns, photography or your brand colours. Keep written information at eye level or above.

Tip 4 – Make key info stand out, avoid overcrowding
Imagine you hang a beautiful piece of artwork on your wall. What will you do with the space around it? If you fill that space will the impact be the same? No. Give your message clear space around it to increase impact.
Tip 5 – Remember the purpose is to engage people in conversation – draw in the crowd
The purpose of an exhibition stand is to grab attention and draw people in to start a conversation. It is not there to display detailed information. Keep it simple and choose a message that will start the right conversations.
Tip 6 – Add something to take away to stay front of mind
Attending a conference or trade show can overload the senses. The nature of these events means there is more to see than we can remember. To avoid being forgotten, be the ones who have a treat to give away and a quality handout. Make sure the styling and messaging are consistent with the stand design.
If you find it hard to remember names and faces, you could create an excuse to take a selfie with your visitors, have a sign-up sheet to collect people’s details and connect with people on Linkedin in the moment. Have something for you to take away to remember your visitors.
